LUCK — Some Approaches to Consider
· Gambling—Card/Dice/Board Games—all levels;
· 'Born this way"—'Lucky families', Genetics, 'born under an (un) lucky star', 'lucky at cards, unlucky at love';
· 'You make your own luck'; and
· Superstitions—broken mirrors bring 7 years' bad luck; never walk under a ladder or on a sidewalk crack.
We interpret themes broadly and recommend becoming familiar with past years' anthologies (see 'Publications' tab on the web site: wwwDOToutriderpressDOTnet) for a sense of the work we accept.
All submissions read/evaluated by in-house editorial staff. All hard copy entries shredded/not returned. Submission does not guarantee acceptance; manuscripts making the final cut are forwarded to independent judges for possible awards: 1st, 2nd and 3rd for poetry and prose. All winners and other selected contributors receive Featured Reader status at our Publishing Party, free and open to all, and traditionally held at Chicago's Sulzer Regional Library. Each published contributor receives a free copy of the anthology. We are especially interested in poetry. Judge: To be announced.
Technical Requirements: Double space Prose. Single space for Poetry. Use only Rich-Text-Format (preferred) and Micrtosoft Word. Specify word processing program used and provide complete author contact info: full postal address, email address + phone number on the 1st page of prose entries and on each separate poem. Use only Times New Roman, Size 11 font. No academic emails or phone numbers, please. No long titles please, and in Poetry, no long lines, either. Our books are approximately 5.5 inches x 8.5 inches, with .75 inch margins all around.
